October Rose has become in many countries around the world, a major event in the fight against breast cancer. The symbol characterizing Pink October is a small pink loop (which is pinned on the collar of his jacket, on the chest of his shirt or blouse). It is the equivalent of the red loop symbolizing World AIDS Day.
On this occasion, many events are organized everywhere in France, each month of October. Thus, the Ministry of Health, and the National Cancer Institute, communicate, launch actions, highlighting the benefits of screening for breast cancer (recommended for all women from 50 years). Cancer care centers also organize events, as well as medical research organizations such as Inserm.
Patient associations like the Cancer League, the ARC, and the many specialized breast cancer associations are also very active during Pink October. The media (especially women), pharmaceutical laboratories, manufacturers, but also major retailers are not left out. One can sometimes be annoyed by this "commodification" of Pink October, which is almost marketed nowadays. But there is no need to tense up on this reality, if money is well made available to medical research against cancer, or to help patients ... it would be wrong to complain.
