Foods rich in vitamin D: Supplementation: when to use it?

Ideally, nature should provide our body with all the vitamin D it needs, through food or through the sun. And ideally, no supplementation should be necessary ... But in reality, the facts are very different.

In fact, vitamin D supplementation is nowadays more and more prescribed to prevent a lack of vitamin D from which many people suffer. In the Paris region, there are 80% of the population with a vitamin D deficiency, this is partly explained by the lack of sun.

Between 50 and 90% of our vitamin D needs are met by the sun: the vitamin is transformed in contact with the skin and synthesized by our body. Regular and moderate exposure is therefore a good way to fight against possible deficiencies. To avoid this vitamin D deficiency, foods rich in vitamin D are also recommended.

When taking a dietary supplement is recommended by the doctor, most of the time the supplementation is done in oral form, it is essentially the drops to take orally. But the supplements also exist in the form of ampoules.

If vitamin D deficiency can affect everyone, some people are more affected than others:

> Vitamin D is often prescribed in addition to children living in countries with low sunlight in winter. In infants, this supplementation can be done by giving them milk enriched with vitamin D.

> Vitamin D is very often prescribed in the elderly to prevent osteoporosis.

Today, vitamin D deficiencies are a subject of much greater interest to physicians than before. The reason is multiple, but in particular the publication of studies proving that a deficit in vitamin D favors the occurrence of certain cancers, such as that of colorectal cancer. Note however that vitamin D supplementation has not shown that it protects against this cancer ... Medicine is a very complex science that raises many debates between exeprts.

Even with supplementation, it is important to absorb foods rich in vitamin D:
