Lupus disease (lupus)

Lupus disease (or lupus) is a general condition that affects the immune system: it is a general autoimmune disease that can affect all organs of the body more or less severely.

The diagnosis of the most common benign forms, affecting the skin and joints, is often difficult. It will be confirmed by the presence of specific autoantibodies in the blood.

The prognosis of the rare forms of lupus with multiple visceral involvement is a function of the degree of renal impairment and the treatment of renal failure by dialysis.

SLE or systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is the severe form of the condition where multiple organs are affected.

Patients with lupus should be followed regularly, have regular medical checkups and blood tests, in order to properly monitor the course of the disease and adapt the treatments.

In the short term, opportunistic, bacterial or viral infections, the appearance of cancer must be detected as soon as possible: all these diseases can occur more easily because of immunosuppressive treatments. It is necessary to avoid the complications of atherosclerosis, thromboses, arterial hypertension ...

In the medium term, relapses should be prevented and visceral disorders should be limited, especially renal impairment. In the long term, it is necessary to limit the side effects of the treatments, even to cure the disease.
