Dietetics: A treatment

In addition to these balanced diet rules, dietetics is used as a treatment to correct certain health problems. Thus, dietetics is part of the management of obesity of course, but also diabetes, hypercholesterolemia, high blood pressure ... In some cases, dietetics is the first solution to put in place before considering other treatments. Example: If a person is suffering from excess cholesterol in the blood, the first thing to do is to correct certain eating habits. If this measure is insufficient, then the prescription of a drug will be considered by the doctor.

Health professionals of dietetics

Health and nutrition professionals insist on the importance of adopting a balanced diet over time, not to mention the notion of pleasure that remains paramount in the diet.

To find yourself in the "jungle" of real good ideas and misconceptions, you can consult a nutrition professional. It is generally consulted in cases of excess weight, but also diabetes, excess cholesterol, triglyceridemia, food allergy.
> A dietitian or a dietician. It is a paramedical health professional specializing in nutrition. He can practice in a private practice (consultation is not covered by health insurance), in a hospital or clinic. The advantage is that one can approach in detail all the nutritional questions.

> The nutritionist doctor. It is a doctor who specialized in the management of overweight and obesity, but also some metabolic problems (hypercholesterolemia, diabetes ...). This doctor is often trained as an endocrinologist (hormone specialist).

After a careful interview about the patient's eating habits and tastes, the doctor or dietitian will develop, with the patient's agreement, a personalized program. The doctor allows more comprehensive care because he prescribe medication.
