Ovarian cyst: symptoms

The symptoms of an ovarian cyst usually go unnoticed.

This is why it is often discovered during a routine gynecological examination, a routine pelvic ultrasound, etc.

In some cases, cysts can be talked about, be responsible for example:

  • a small unilateral pelvic pain,
  • of a simple gravity.

Other symptoms are possible and vary depending on the location and size of the cyst:

  • bloating,
  • abdominal pain,
  • tendency to urinate too frequently (pollakiuria),
  • constipation,
  • bleeding between the rules (metrorrhagia), etc.

Other symptoms should cause cancer to be suspected, for example:

  • tiredness,
  • the drop in appetite,
  • emaciation.
Women with a personal or family history of breast cancer and / or ovarian cancer should have a particularly thorough consultation.

On the occasion of the medical consultation, the date of the last rules will be specified.

Exams

The gynecological examination verifies the state of health of the cervix: a smear and a vaginal touch will be made. The latter will specify as much as possible the origin of the tumor, its size, its mobility;

To complete the vaginal touch, a rectal examination will eventually be done.

In all cases, additional examinations are essential, both to confirm the diagnosis of ovarian cyst, and to specify its location.
