Baby gastroenteritis: the testimony of a patient

Claire, 31, like many young mothers, could not detect the dehydration of her little Roman. She gives us her testimony ...

Your child had to be hospitalized for diarrhea. How did that happen?

What a horrible memory! My baby was four months old, it came at once. He had been going to the daycare for about a fortnight (it was February) and all of a sudden he began to get diarrhea. As it is my first baby, I was not very aware, and at first I thought it was normal ... or that it did not matter. But it's going fast, very fast. He had very liquid stools that spilled out of his bed, he cried, he vomited all his bottles. He was really bad. And then, in a few hours, he became quite weird: he was not smiling anymore, he was very soft, I saw that he had changed his behavior, but I did not think he was dehydrated. Not so fast. I gave him some coke to drink, it passed a little ... the rest, he vomited. So we ended up panicking with my husband, and he was taken to the emergency room.

He was hospitalized ...

Yes, quickly. Me, I was completely panicked, I had the impression that he was going to die, but when I arrived, the doctors immediately saw what he had. They told me they were used to it, they reassured me. They simply gave him a rehydration solution to drink. It's funny because, with me, he could not absorb anything, and there, he took the bottle well. He was given very small quantities, but very often. And it was surprising: he clung to the bottle, with his little hands. We could tell he felt that it was good for him, and we did not need to ask him a gastric tube. Doctors told me that's what we would do if he refused bottles, but it was not worth it. He came out of the hospital six hours later, but I can tell you that since then, I still have this liquid in my pharmacy!

They are numerous ... and not only medicated, even if they are often taken first. > Medications.
