Dysgraphy: the causes

Several causes may contribute to the appearance of a dysgraphia: functional disorders such as a laterality problem, poor posture or poor pen behavior, poor perception of the body diagram, psychomotor immaturity at the time of learning, bad perception of the body diagram, etc.

Dysgraphy can also be favored by an affective disorder, a bad family, friendly, or professional, or cognitive disorders such as those related to dyslexia, dysorthography. The dysgraphia can be caused by a deficit of attention with or without hyperactivity (ADHD) ... or be linked to an intellectual precocity!

Today, there is an increase in the number of children with dysgraphia and dysorthography. Among the reasons given for this recrudescence, there is an increased use of photocopies, text with holes, touch pads ... from the small classes. Writing exercises, including whole lines of letters, are less and less used by primary school teachers.

Dysgraphy affects 70% of children "early" because the earliness often leads to a lack of interest in written work often "considered" as too slow or tedious.

Similarly, intellectually precocious children are likely to move too quickly through certain stages of learning, for example if they are forced to skip one or more classes. The level of motor development of these children is not at the same level as their thinking. This is why graphic skills are sometimes out of sync with the expected level.
