Tasteless diabetes: the causes

The causes of diabetes insipidus are related to hormonal problems. There are two main types of diabetes insipidus:

1 - Central diabetes insipidus (DIC)

The first cause is the insufficient production of the anti-diuretic hormone, arginine vasopressin or DHA, secreted by the pituitary gland. This is called central diabetes insipidus (DIC).

This hormone is essential to regulate the inflow and outflow of water, and thus prevent dehydration: it is it that allows the kidneys to reabsorb part of the water consumed and to reject the excess in the urine (power of concentration).

Diabetes insipidus is most often a condition that develops as a result of neurosurgical intervention or certain diseases: destruction, alteration or malformation of the pituitary stalk, pituitary gland or hypothalamus, but also case of a brain tumor, sarcoidosis, tuberculosis, sequelae of head trauma, etc.

This diabetes insipidus is usually transient when it occurs after surgery, and then heals within days or weeks. Apart from this case, it is definitive.

2 - Nephrogenic diabetes insipidus (DIN)

Other times, diabetes insipidus is called "nephrogenic" (DIN): the anti-diuretic hormone is well produced, but the kidneys do not react. The DIN is often hereditary, detected at birth and is definitive.
