After the date of ovulation, remain to be interested in the period of fertility.

The period during which a woman can become pregnant theoretically begins 4-5 days before ovulation and ends 1 to 2 days later . Knowing the fertility period is especially useful for women and men who want to have a child.

It is also important to know that spermatozoa are able to stay for many hours in the vagina and then in the uterus, before fertilizing the female oocyte: in fact, sperm can survive for 3-5 days in the cervix. uterus, while the life of the egg is only 12 hours to 24 hours.

Again: 100% of the calculation of the date of ovulation described above can not be 100% reliable. Because, for multiple reasons, these data may vary between women. And it is not uncommon at all for women, without contraception, to become pregnant as a result of sexual intercourse that took place in the first days of the cycle.

Likewise, cycles can occur with periods, but without ovulation! It also happens that ovulation is triggered at an unexpected date: so do not rely on the calculation of 14 days after the start of the rules to know when you are fertile!

In conclusion: if the calculation of the date of ovulation is used as a means of contraception, it is important to know that it is not enough to avoid sexual intercourse on the day of ovulation, since a fertilization of the ovum is possible even in the absence of sexual intercourse on this specific date. In other words, knowing the date of ovulation can not be considered or used as an effective method of contraception!

To better understand, here is a diagram of the internal sexual organs of women:

To remember :
