Sunscreen: how to choose your sunscreen?

To choose your sunscreen, several factors must be taken into account:

> The phototype (from I to VI, according to the color of the hair, the skin and its ability to tan). As a general rule, the clearer the skin, the higher the index to use.

> The conditions of sunshine. The intensity of the ultraviolet radiation varies according to the season, the time, the place, especially for the UVB (the UVA are fairly constant during the day). For exposure at altitude or in the tropics (where UV radiation is vertical) maximum protection is recommended. To take into account also, the degree of reverberation (the water reflects the rays of 20 to 40%, and the snow to 80%).

> The texture. For the face, choose a fluid cream, non-comedogenic; for the body, milks or sprays (oils are not recommended, their texture does not allow to incorporate efficient filters).
At a product of strong index with the thick texture unpleasant and difficult to apply, prefer a product with lower IP but easier to apply.

What is your skin type?

Oily, dry, sensitive or normal skin: it is important to know your skin to provide the appropriate care. What is your skin type? Take the test!

Know how to use your sunscreen

Whatever the protection index of your solar ceme, renew the application at least every 2 hours and after each swim.

Even with good sun protection, avoid exposure to hours of sunshine (between 11 and 16 hours).

Once the skin is removed, you can switch to a smaller index, but continue to protect it; the risk in the short term (sunburn) decreases, but the long-term risk (aging and skin cancer) persists.

Do not keep a tube of cream open from one year to another (sunscreens are fragile and do not keep well).

The sunscreen, even of excellent quality and well applied, does not protect optimally. Also, dermatologists advise to protect themselves with clothes and a hat. And look for shade at the hottest and most sunny hours of the day.

After exposure to the sun, it is recommended to rehydrate the skin with an after-sun care.
