Reminder: the contraceptive pill does not protect against STDs.
The pill is a hormonal contraceptive method that prevents ovulation, it is generally well tolerated. It is the most used method of contraception in France and if it is taken regularly it is very effective.
There are some contraindications to the prescription of the pill particularly a history of thromboembolic disease and cerebrovascular disease.
There are several kinds of pills more or less dosed in hormones (estrogen and progesterone).
The pill is taken periodically: a pill plate contains 21 tablets. You have to take one a day, the first tablet the first day of the rules and then for 3 consecutive weeks, 21 days and always at the same time.
A stop of one week between two platelets allows the appearance of the rules.
If a pill is forgotten, there is a risk of pregnancy:
- If forgetfulness is less than 12 hours, it is not too much trouble: you must immediately take the forgotten pill and continue taking the following at the usual time.
- If the forgetfulness is more than 12 hours: it is necessary to take the forgotten pill and to continue the plate at the usual hours, but there can be an ovulation, so it is necessary to associate during two weeks another method of contraception (condoms, spermicides. ..).
