Urinary calculus: Treatments

To avoid the formation of a urinary calculus, in the first place, it is advisable to drink a lot of water in order to eliminate the calculus (s) (but not during the painful crises of renal colic).

Sometimes urinary stones are formed and eliminated without any sign or pain. At other times, their elimination can be the cause of painful crises when passing a little larger fragments. Of course, the doctor prescribes treatments to relieve the patient. In general, it takes a few weeks to eliminate them. If this elimination of the urinary calculus (s) is not done correctly, then surgical means must be considered to remove or fragment these stones.

The most common of the computational treatments is extracorporeal lithotripsy (ESL): it consists of breaking kidney stones using ultrasonic shock waves. The patrician who operates in the operating room, visualizes the calculations by fluoroscopy or ultrasound in order to locate them before splitting them. Extracorporeal lithotripsy is usually done under general anesthesia, ambulatory stay (1/2 or 1 day of hospitalization). The elimination of urinary calculus (or stones) is done by natural means. It can be more or less painful.

Other methods, other treatments are used according to the size of the calculations which can go from the introduction of a mini-camera by the natural ways and use of a laser radiation to pulverize the computation, until kidney surgery.
