Acute psychotic states.
Chronic psychotic states (schizophrenia, non-schizophrenic chronic deliriums: paranoid delusions, chronic hallucinatory psychoses).

Reserved for adults .
Oral way.
The minimum effective dosage will always be sought. If the clinical condition of the patient permits, the treatment will be initiated at low dose and then gradually increased in steps.
The dosage is 400 to 800 mg / day, not to exceed 1 tablet per dose.

Against indications

This medicine is CONTRAINDICATED in the following cases:
- hypersensitivity to sultopride or any of the other components of the tablet,
- bradycardia less than 55 / minute,
- pheochromocytoma, known or suspected,
- in association with:
. drugs giving torsades de pointes:
. anti-arrhythmic agents of class la (quinidine, hydroquinidine, disopyramide),
. class III antiarrhythmic agents (amiodarone, sotalol, dofetilide, ibutilide),
. certain neuroleptics (thioridazine, chlorpromazine, levomepromazine, trifluoperazine, cyamemazine, sulpiride, amisulpride, tiapride, pimozide, haloperidol, droperidol, veralipride),
. others (bepridil, cisapride, diphemanil, erythromycin IV, mizolastine, vincamine IV ...),
. Bradycardic drugs: Bradycardic calcium antagonists (diltiazem, verapamil); beta-blockers ; clonidine; guanfacine; digitalis; mefloquine; anticholinesterase agents (donepezil, galantamine, rivastigmine, tacrine, ambenonium, pyridostigmine, neostigmine),
. imipramine antidepressants,
. dopaminergic agonists (amantadine, apomorphine, bromocriptine, cabergoline, entacapone, lisuride, pergolide, piribedil, pramipexole, quinagolide, ropinirole) except for the patient with Parkinson's disease.
This medicine is NOT RECOMMENDED in the following cases:
- Breastfeeding: Due to the use of sultopride in breast milk, breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment.
- in association with:
. the alcohol,
. hypokalemicating drugs [hypokalemic diuretics, stimulant laxatives, amphotericin B (route IV), glucocorticoids, tetracosactide],
. levodopa,
. dopaminergic agonists (amantadine, apomorphine, bromocriptine, cabergoline, entacapone, lisuride, pergolide, piribedil, pramipexole, quinagolide, ropinirole) in Parkinson's disease.
. halofantrine, pentamidine, sparfloxacin and moxifloxacin.

Barnetil side effects

- Cardiac disorders :
. prolongation of the QT interval,
. rare cases of torsades de pointes have been reported.
- Neuropsychic disorders :
. early dyskinesia (spasmodic torticollis, oculogyric seizures, trismus) giving way to anticholinergic antiparkinsonian
. extrapyramidal syndrome:
. akinetic with or without hypertonia, and partially yielding to antiparkinsonian anticholinergics,
. hyperkineto-hypertonic, excito-motor,
. akathisia.
. tardive dyskinesias that could be observed as with all neuroleptics during prolonged courses of treatment: antiparkinsonian anticholinergics are without action or can cause an aggravation,
. sedation or drowsiness.
- Endocrine and metabolic disorders :
. hyperprolactinemia, amenorrhea, galactorrhea, gynecomastia, impotence or frigidity,
. weight gain can be important.
- Neurovegetative disorders : orthostatic hypotension.
- Malignant syndrome (see warnings: pallor, hyperthermia, vegetative disorders: sweating and arterial instability, impaired consciousness, muscular rigidity).
