Asthma: the symptoms

An asthma attack manifests itself variably by the following symptoms:

  • a difficult breathing,
  • a whistling in the chest at the expiration (we speak of sibilants),
  • an oppression,
  • a cough.

Another symptom: at the inspiration, the region above the clavicles is deepened.

The asthma attack can be short-lived with the disappearance of all signs after the crisis; it may not be totally curbed, signs persist especially at night with always a respiratory gene, a cough.

Sometimes other signs can manifest themselves as:

  • more or less intense fatigue,
  • panting,
  • hypoxia with cyanosis (bluish color) of the lobes of the ears, lips, nails,
  • tachycardia.

These symptoms signify a significant worsening of the asthma attack.

But be careful, it also happens that the patient does not really complain of major symptom, when in fact there is indeed a partial obstruction of the bronchi.

Complementary examinations are carried out to better diagnose asthma and evaluate the respiratory gene. The doctor will evaluate the oxygen saturation in the blood, the peak expiratory flow with a device (peak flow meter or peak-flow). Functional respiratory examination may be necessary.
