Canker sores: The causes

The canker sores appear spontaneously, often as a result of an injury to an object or food (a crust of bread, a fishbone) or after biting the cheek. In addition, certain foods favor canker sores: certain cheeses, chocolate, nuts ...
Aphthous ulcerations can also be promoted by stress, fever, or a lack of vitamin B, folic acid or iron. In women, they can occur during menstruation.

Sometimes the canker sores are due to a particular disease.
Thus, the presence of canker sores may be the sign of certain very specific pathologies such as Behçet's disease. In addition to mouth ulcers, there are also mouth ulcers in the anogenital area. This affection is also characterized by an attack of the eyes, the joints, the vessels ... a strong fatigue.

In some immunosuppressive diseases such as AIDS, canker sores can appear. Drugs that decrease salivary secretion may also promote the development of mouth ulcers. People taking chemotherapy may have different problems with the oral mucosa (stomatitis). People who have received radiation treatment focused on the throat or mouth will suffer sequelae at this level, with a significant lack of saliva.
